FAQs

Below we explain step by step how the process of having earplugs made at Alpine works:

#1. Choose your ideal custom earplug

Go for ear molds that match the activities you want to use them for.

#2. Select optional extras

Once you have added the desired custom earplug to your shopping cart, you can select optional extras in the popup window.

#3. Place your order via our webshop

Satisfied? Go to your shopping cart and click checkout. After completing the process, you will receive a payment confirmation.

#4. Schedule an appointment

In addition to the payment confirmation, you will receive a second email with instructions on how to schedule an appointment to have your earplugs fitted. This can be done at the Alpine store in Utrecht or at a Hans Anders branch.

#5. Come in and have your earplugs fitted

On the day of the appointment, we first review the order, after which we proceed with fitting the hearing protection. We examine the ear canals and place a cotton pad to close the ear canal. Then we apply the fitting paste, which can be removed after hardening for 90 seconds.

#6. Leave the rest to us

You can go home while we get to work; we now have the 3D impressions needed to create perfectly fitting custom earplugs for you.

#7. Check the Track & Trace code for the delivery date

About 2 to 3 weeks after the fitting, you will receive a Track & Trace code by email, so you know when to expect your new custom hearing protection.

#8. Try out your new ear molds!

Once your package arrives, you can try out your new custom earplugs. If you have any questions about your custom earplugs, you can always contact our customer service.

Custom-made earplugs are available at Alpine starting from €124.95. The exact cost depends on the type of earplugs. Optional extras incur a small additional charge.

After having your ear molds fitted, you will receive your package in the mailbox within three to four weeks. Once your order has been shipped, you will receive a Track & Trace code by email so you can see when to expect your new custom earplugs.

The time when custom earplugs need replacement varies from person to person. The quality of the material remains intact, but over time the ear canal may not seal as effectively. As a result, your ear molds may start to leak sound or become slightly less comfortable. This is because ears are largely made of cartilage, which continues to grow and change throughout your life. For some people, this process happens so quickly that they need new earplugs after just 2 years, while others can use the same pair for up to 10 years without issues. So it’s a matter of luck! On average, custom earplugs need to be replaced after 4 to 5 years.

Fitting earplugs can be done at the Alpine headquarters in Utrecht and at one of the over 200 branches of Hans Anders in the Netherlands and Belgium. Please note that fitting earmolds is only possible by appointment.

At Alpine, we distinguish between two types of warranty for custom earplugs:

  • Fit Guarantee

If you receive your custom earplugs but are not satisfied with the fit, you can claim our fit guarantee within three months of receipt. In that case, we offer one free new set of ear molds, including a new fitting.

  • 12-Month Material Warranty

Are your custom earplugs damaged? Don’t worry, all our custom products are covered by a two-year material warranty. Damage occurring under normal use within this period is covered. This warranty is void if the earplugs are used incorrectly or altered without Alpine’s permission.

You can report damage to your custom earplugs via this form.

To extend the lifespan of your custom ear molds and prevent ear problems, it is advisable to clean them after use with the Alpine Cleaning Spray for custom earplugs.

This convenient, odorless spray (available in our earplug accessories) cleans and disinfects efficiently without leaving sticky residues. Simply spray your earplugs and then wipe them with a tissue or a soft, clean cloth. Afterwards, they are ready for use!

With earplugs that have a filter, earwax can sometimes remain in the opening of an ear mold; you can remove this with the included cleaning hook. Earplugs without a filter, such as the SwimSafe plugs, do not have a filter opening and are therefore supplied without a cleaning hook. Good ear care is also important to keep your custom earplugs clean.

Inserting custom-made earplugs can take some getting used to, but you’ll quickly get the hang of it. Here are some tips:

  • Make sure to insert the left earplug (marked “L”) into your left ear and the right earplug (marked “R”) into your right ear – not the other way around.
  • Use a mirror so you can see what you are doing.
  • Hold an earplug between your thumb and forefinger, bring it to your ear, and make sure the side with the Alpine logo is facing forward. Then gently insert the earplug. It can help to pull on your ear with your other hand while inserting.
  • Allow your ears to gradually get used to your new custom earplugs. Start with a maximum of one hour and increase the time gradually.

If you work in a profession with frequent exposure to high noise levels, your employer is required to provide hearing protection. Examples include: wood and metalworkers, construction workers, truck drivers, military personnel, police officers, farmers, DJs, and musicians (orchestra members). Even in less obvious workplaces, harmful noise can occur, such as swimming pools, gyms, recreation centers, and daycare facilities.

Alpine does not have official contracts with insurers to reimburse custom earplugs. However, it is possible that you may still receive compensation for hearing protection. Check the terms with your insurer. Another option is that your employer reimburses custom otoplastics. According to the Dutch Working Conditions Act, there are certain circumstances under which you are entitled to custom earplugs.
